Docs/Using Frametide
Tweaks
Every setting Frametide can change, one by one, with an explanation, the usually best value and an undo button. Presets are easier for most people; this page is for trying single changes.
Finding settings#
- Everything / Could be better / Changed by this app: Could be better shows settings where the usually better choice (★) isn't what your PC uses now.
- Category: Windows, power, graphics, network, services, memory and storage, and more.
- Search: by name or effect, e.g. “stutter”, “latency” or “mouse”.
- Hide settings that don't apply to my hardware: e.g. NVIDIA settings on an AMD card.
What the labels mean#
| Label | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Big effect / Noticeable effect / Small effect / Little to no effect | How much the setting usually changes in games. “Little to no effect” is listed for completeness and because forums often recommend it. |
| Safe | No known downsides besides the described trade-off. |
| Small risk | Can rarely cause side effects, e.g. a device that doesn't wake up. Easy to undo. |
| Risky | Can cause instability on some PCs. Only with a reason, and test afterwards. |
| Lowers security | Turns off a protection feature for some speed (for example virtualization-based security). Your decision, explained in the text. |
| Needs a Windows restart / Needs sign-out / Restart the game | When the change takes effect. |
| Usually best: … | The value that's best for most gaming PCs (★ in the list). |
| PRO | Free version: this setting needs Premium. Instead of Apply it shows Unlock with Premium. Undo works anyway. |
| Now: … | What your PC uses right now. |
In the free version#
About 30% of the settings can be changed for free: in every category the safest ones, so you can try a bit of everything. The others show PRO and Unlock with Premium. Undo works on every setting, also after Premium ended.
Apply and undo#
- Choose a value in the drop-down and click Apply. The message says whether it's active right away or after a restart.
- Undo restores the value this setting had before Frametide changed it.
- Undo all changes (top right) puts every setting the app changed back the way it was.
Changing a setting here moves you to My personal settings: your active preset plus your change. See Your original and personal settings.
Read values again re-reads every setting, e.g. after you changed something in the NVIDIA app or in Windows yourself. Technical details shows exactly what is changed (registry path, command, driver setting).
“Couldn't read”#
A setting shows Couldn't read: … when Windows didn't give its value. The text after it says why, for example a feature that isn't installed, a driver that doesn't offer it, or Microsoft Defender is not active on this PC when another antivirus replaces it (see here). Such settings are left out of presets.
