Manual and BIOS

Some of the biggest gains aren't Windows settings at all: a memory profile left off in the BIOS, a monitor running at 60 Hz, a cable in the wrong port. Frametide checks for these, explains what's usually best and where to change it, and fixes what it safely can.

PC checks#

At every start, Frametide looks for common setup mistakes. Home shows how many need attention, and Manual & BIOS lists them with what was detected. In the free version you see how many problems were found; which ones, and the fix, are part of Premium.

  • Monitor below its refresh rate, e.g. a 144 Hz screen running at 60 Hz. Fix it switches it to the highest rate; a window asks Does your screen look right?. If you don't click Keep it within 15 seconds, it switches back by itself, so a black screen can't stay.
  • Monitor cable in the motherboard instead of the graphics card: the game then runs on the processor's graphics or takes a detour.
  • Graphics card with fewer PCIe lanes than it supports, e.g. x4 instead of x16 because it's in the wrong slot.
  • RAM in single channel or not running at its rated speed.

BIOS settings#

Frametide never changes BIOS settings itself: on normal motherboards that isn't possible without kernel drivers that anti-cheat and antivirus flag, and a wrong value can stop a PC from booting. Instead it reads what it can and explains each setting:

  • Memory profile (XMP / EXPO): runs RAM at its rated speed. Often the single biggest free gain in CPU-bound games.
  • Resizable BAR / Smart Access Memory, Secure Boot (several anti-cheat systems require it), CPU virtualization, SMT / Hyper-Threading, BIOS age and the AMD fTPM stutter fixed by newer BIOS versions, among others.

Each entry has Where to change it with steps for your motherboard brand (ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte, ASRock, or generic steps), e.g. “Press DEL at boot → Ai Tweaker → Ai Overclock Tuner → XMP / EXPO → F10 to save”. Menu names can differ between BIOS versions.

WarningIf the PC doesn't start after a BIOS change, most boards go back to safe defaults after a few failed starts. Otherwise clear the CMOS as described in your motherboard's manual.

Driver-panel and in-game settings#

Settings that live in the NVIDIA app, AMD Software or inside games (frame caps, V-Sync, low-latency modes, overlays) are listed with what's usually best and why. Frametide changes the ones it safely can through the drivers' official interfaces; the rest you change yourself in a minute.

Still stuck? Write to support@frametide.de with what you clicked, the exact message and, if the app showed an error, the file errors.log (Settings → Open data folder → logs).
