Cleanup
Frees disk space from leftovers and switches off programs that start with Windows. Honest note: deleting files doesn't make games faster by itself. Fewer programs running in the background while you play can.
Leftover files#
When the page opens, Frametide checks how much space each kind of leftover takes. Tick what you want removed and click Clean; a confirmation lists everything first.
| Item | What's removed | Selected by default |
|---|---|---|
| Temporary files | Files in your temp folder and the Windows temp folder that are older than a day, so nothing a running program still uses. | Yes |
| Old graphics driver installers | NVIDIA and AMD unpack every driver installer to C:\NVIDIA, C:\AMD and their download folder and never remove it. Often several GB. The installed driver isn't affected. | Yes |
| Crash dumps and error reports | Memory dumps and reports from programs and games that crashed. Only useful when sending them to a developer. | Yes |
| Windows Update downloads | Update files that are already installed, older than 10 days. Windows downloads again whatever it still needs. | No |
| Recycle Bin | Everything in the Recycle Bin on all drives. Gone for good afterwards. | No |
Files that are in use are skipped and stay; restarting Windows usually frees them. Cleaned files are deleted permanently, not moved to the Recycle Bin.
What is never touched
- Shader caches. Deleting them makes games compile their shaders again, which causes stutter for a while. Tools that delete them “for performance” do the opposite.
- Folders themselves, your documents, downloads, game files and anything outside the listed folders. The cleaner doesn't follow links or junctions into other folders, and refuses broad folders such as a drive root, Windows or Program Files.
Programs that start with Windows#
The list shows every program that starts when you sign in, with its publisher and where the entry comes from. Untick a program to keep it from starting; tick it again to bring it back.
- It works exactly like the Startup tab in Task Manager: the program stays installed, its own entry stays untouched, and Task Manager shows the same state.
- The change takes effect from the next sign-in.
- Good candidates: launchers and tools you start yourself anyway (Steam, Epic, Discord, Spotify, updaters). Keep security software, audio and touchpad drivers, and anything you don't recognise until you've looked it up. Windows Security is marked Keep this on.
- Hover a program to see the exact command that starts it.
